Position Purpose
The Tax Manager is responsible for handling difficult tax issues, for coordinating and training staff and for building the size and quality of the tax practice.

Position Reports To
The Tax Manager reports primarily to the Tax Partner and secondarily to the engagement partner.

Position Requirements

  • Advanced knowledge in several areas of taxation - income taxation of individuals, partnerships, trusts, and corporations (including consolidated returns); estate and gift taxation; international taxation.
  • Demonstrated ability to train, coach, and supervise staff in a positive, effective and inspiring way to further staff’s advancement; provide input in performance evaluations of staff.
  • Ability to research and document difficult tax issues.
  • Demonstrated time and workload management skills.
  • Interpersonal skills - desire to become involved in the community; ability to maintain excellent client relationships; ability to attract new clients to the firm.
  • Perform other tasks as needed.

Position Skills

  • Possess a college degree and be licensed as a CPA; masters degree in tax helpful.
  • Have a minimum of seven years experience with demonstrated increase in the level of responsibility and supervision.

Measures of Success

  • Achieve profitability goals for the tax practice.
  • Complete tax returns and projects in a timely fashion as determined by the client and the firm.
  • Improvement in knowledge and abilities of staff.
